Held for the eighth time in 2024, the SHIFT Conference provided wide- ranging and exclusive insights into the world of entrepreneurialism as well as solutions for dealing with crises, keynotes examining societal trends that break new ground for top managers, and thought-provoking stories of new ways ahead, ways out, and ways around problems and challenges.
This SHIFT event, the seventh in the series, was also a premiere – it was the first SHIFT to be held entirely during the Oktoberfest. At last! Study hard, party hard! That hardly made the team’s job easier, as co-founder and co-organizer Nick Hartmann admitted at the beginning. Many hotels were full, many flights were changed. Nevertheless, most of the speakers managed to make it, and all the seats and the traditional beer garden-style tables set up at the back were packed.The last SHIFT #6 in May 2023 had outlined general trends, concentrating on aspects of German domestic policy and geopolitics as the main topics of debate. This time, however, the focus was on the tangible impact of change on individuals, companies, and niche markets.
SHIFT MAY 2023 included musings on how best to confront indecisive consumer behavior, how to deal with the many uncertainties involved, and, at more granular level, how to tackle hard-headed landlords of city-center properties. What kind of framework is being set by policymakers? Here, a traffic signal that is changing too slowly for many speakers’ liking; there, ensions with China; all accompanied, of course, by fast-paced technological developments that fan the flames of hope and skepticism with equal vigor. One of the standout learnings from our SHIFT Conference is that the combination of artificial intelligence and common sense may seem contradictory––but is a great tool for shaping the future.
